Hobart

Hobart is Australia's southernmost capital city on the island of Tasmania, though it is the smallest out of all of the capital cities it boast a particular charm and vibrancy not often found.  A river-side city with a busy harbour, its mountain backdrop offers breathtaking views over the beautiful Georgian buildings, numerous parks and compact suburbs below. There's not a lot you won't find here; Hobart has a thriving festival scene and a real sense of history. For walking, eating and just soaking in the atmosphere it can't be bettered.

Hobart is the second oldest capital city in Australia. Dating from 1804, it is exceeded in antiquity only by Sydney. As a result, it has a degree of history which one might not have expected prior to arrival, and a number of fine older buildings.
