Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and is one of Australia's most beautiful city's. It is centrally located in South Australia and makes a great base from which to explore this fantastic state. South Australia has many different landscapes for tourists to enjoy. These range from the arid deserts of the Outback, Lake Eyre and Coober Pedy, through the wineries of the Barossa and Clare Valleys, to the magnificent coastline and unique wildlife of Kangaroo Island.
In South Australia, the main tourist industry that attracts visitors to the state is the wine growing industry. South Australia has been famous for over a hundred years as generations of vintners have developed fantastic wineries in the lush volcanic soils of the Barossa and Clare valleys.The region now has hundreds of cellar doors and accommodation resorts that cater to the huge number of tourists who come here every year to sample its produce.
The south east corner of South Australia is unique. here the mouth of the Murray river enters the ocean at a coastal ecosystem known as the Coorong. Here millions of birds gather to breed and the coastal beaches are fantastic. kangaroo Island lies just offshore and this is probably the best place in Australia to view its unique wildlife. The coastal scenery is spellbinding and the island is like a trip back in time. it is accessed by air or via a ferry service from the mainland.
There are two gulfs that run from north to south into South Australia and these waterways create two separate peninsula's that are fantastic tourist destinations. Both the Eyre Peninsular and the Yorke peninsular are home to many special little tourist towns that are worth visiting. Places like Whyalla, Port Lincoln and Port Augusta all provide tourist facilities. All of these attractions help to make South Australia one of the countries most interesting tourist destinations.
