Snowy Mountains

The Snowy Mountains, known informally as "The Snowies", are the highest Australian mountain range and contain the Australian mainland's highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko, which reaches 2,228 metres.The range contains Australia's five highest peaks, all above 2100 metres. They are located in southern New South Wales and are part of the larger Australian Alps and the Great Dividing Range. This is grazing and skiing country! The region produces fine wools, lamb and stud cattle and sheep, but its main attraction to the visitor is the high country, where lies Australia's premier ski fields.In New South Wales the primary ski destinations are Thredbo, Mt Selwyn and Perisher Valley. In Victoria Mt Buller is the closest to Melbourne and Further to the north are Mount Hotham, Mount buffalo and Falls Creek.

From mid June to October, the Snowies come alive with a huge array of snow activities for all ages and levels of skiing ability. From downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, tobogganing and family fun. Skiers and snowboarders at all levels can revel in snow and après-ski fun; kids can have a go in ski school or try snow tubing; and the Snowies has always been a mecca for snow bunnies! From snow sports, to a wide range of facilities to other creature comforts such as warm fires, boutique stores, nightspots and cosy accommodation it all just adds to the amazing experience that it the Snowy Mountains. Not only can you fill your days with fun activities but there are some interesting attractions to see as well such as the Snowy Hydro power station, Tumut 3.  This is the largest hydroelectric power station in Australia. Experienced guides will take you through the power station and explain the operations of the Scheme. The Snowy Hydro Information Centre gives visitors insight into the sheer scope of this iconic part of the nation's post-war development.
